On Saturday Jan. 11, Crandall ISD honored two storied coaches for their years of service at the varsity Pirates girls’ basketball game.

Deniece and Wanda Blount are sisters who have worked in Crandall for a combined 50 years of service. Deniece has served 28 years and Wanda has served 22 years at CISD. They both have decided to retire at the end of this school year. Both sisters were hired at the time by one of the best head women’s basketball coaches in Texas, Donna Capps.

In Coach Deniece Blount’s 28 years she served as a P.E. coach at the intermediate school and the rest as a teacher and coach at Crandall Middle School. Coach Wanda Blount’s 22 years of service were spent teaching at Crandall High School and Crandall Middle School. The duo’s coaching responsibilities included volleyball, basketball and track at both the middle school and high school.

Coach Capps, said “Deniece and Wanda Blount deserve a great deal of thanks for helping so many young Pirates get on the ship. Thank you for helping set the high standards and strong foundation for the Crandall ISD girls athletic program. Congratulations on a wonderful career of loving dedication to our kids. Pirates forever.”

There will be a huge gap to fill at CMS after the school year ends. The Blount sisters have been an integral part in the foundation of many Crandall athletes over the years. Crandall ISD loves and thanks them for their service and will always remember the devotion and love they have for Crandall ISD.
